Teoría general de sistemas is the Spanish edition of Ludwig von Bertalanffy's General System Theory, the founding text of systems thinking as a cross-disciplinary framework. It argues that many different fields share common patterns of organization that can be studied through a shared set of systems concepts, rather than through each discipline's separate, reductionist methods.
Teoría general de sistemas is the Spanish translation of Ludwig von Bertalanffy's General System Theory: Foundations, Development, Applications, the collected statement of the theory Bertalanffy spent decades developing. His central argument is that biology, psychology, sociology and engineering, among other fields, all deal with systems that show comparable patterns of organization, and that these patterns can be described and compared using a common set of concepts rather than being treated in isolation by each discipline. A key distinction in the book is between closed systems, to which classical thermodynamics applies, and open systems, such as living organisms, which exchange matter and energy with their environment and cannot be fully understood by the same closed-system laws. The book became a founding text for systems science and went on to influence fields including cybernetics, systems biology and organizational theory.
