The Power of Myth records a series of conversations between mythologist Joseph Campbell and journalist Bill Moyers, first broadcast as a PBS series. The Power of Myth is built from a set of interviews between Joseph Campbell and journalist Bill Moyers, in which Moyers' questions draw out Campbell's ideas on how myth shapes human life. The book moves across subjects from marriage to death, from ancient gods to modern culture, tracing the structure of myth and its central figure, the hero, whose journey of departure, trial and return recurs across unrelated cultures and eras. The conversations were first recorded for a PBS television series and later published as this companion book, which brought a new wave of attention to Campbell's work on comparative mythology.
