This edited volume brings together the major traditions of qualitative research used in the social sciences, ethnography, grounded theory, life histories and case studies, coordinated by Irene Vasilachis de Gialdino with contributions from researchers applying each approach in their own work.
This volume, coordinated by Irene Vasilachis de Gialdino, sets out the main traditions and strategies of qualitative research in the social sciences: the characteristics of qualitative research and its design, followed by chapters on ethnography, grounded theory, life histories and case studies, and closing with a discussion of computer-assisted qualitative data analysis. Each strategy is presented by contributing authors drawing on their own research in different areas of the social sciences, aiming to represent the range of perspectives and debates within qualitative methodology rather than a single approach. A second volume, published in 2019, later added chapters on photography-based research, mixed methods, and further developments in grounded theory and analysis software. Credits: Gialdino, I.
