Estúdio Campana partnered with Amazonian riverside communities to turn pirarucu fish leather, a sustainably sourced local material, into original designs, respecting the material's ecosystem and cultural context.
Seasoned by decades of exploring Brazil's diverse culture Estudio Campana (Fernando and Humberto Campana), through Instituto Campana, were able to create original designs with Pirarucu fish leather in association with Amazonian communities. Their unique design perception saw profound potential in this unique, sustainably sourced, yet often overlooked, local material. They engaged deeply with the material, intuitively sensing its textures and strengths, going beyond its raw state. This exploration involved respectful dialogue with riverside communities, understanding the leather's sustainable ecosystem and cultural context.
