Design's Iron Fist and Other Essays, by Jarrod Drysdale of Studio Fellow, is a collection of essays on design practice, freelance work and the mindset of independent designers, drawn from over a decade of the author's writing. It is organized around design technique, the designer's mindset, building one's own products, and freelancing.
Design's Iron Fist and Other Essays collects Jarrod Drysdale's writing from more than ten years of work as an independent designer and founder of the studio Studio Fellow. The essays are organized into four broad sections: design technique and process, the mindset a designer needs to sustain independent work, advice on building and shipping one's own products rather than only client work, and practical guidance on freelancing. Distributed for free by the author, the collection has been recommended by design publications and organizations as a useful, grounded resource for designers working outside traditional studio or agency settings.
