The book cites the Club of Rome's 1972 report The Limits to Growth as an early, influential challenge to the idea that endless economic growth is possible on a finite planet.
"Around the same time, thinkers like those in the Club of Rome were asking hard questions, publishing "The Limits to Growth," daring to suggest that infinite economic expansion on a finite planet might just be impossible."
