Transition Design 2015

'Transition Design' is a transdisciplinary approach developed by Terry Irwin, Gideon Kossoff, Cameron Tonkinwise and Peter Scupelli at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Design, aimed at addressing the interconnected, large-scale 'wicked' problems facing twenty-first-century societies. It argues that intentional, systems-level change — including small, deliberate shifts made in the present — can redirect a society's whole transition trajectory toward more sustainable and equitable futures, treating design not just as a way to make new products but as a way to guide long-term social and economic transitions.
