Research Through Design and Transdisciplinarity: A Tentative Contribution to the Methodology of Design Research

Presented at the 2008 Swiss Design Network Symposium and published in the proceedings "Focused: Current Design Research Projects and Methods," this paper by Alain Findeli and colleagues (from Universite de Montreal, Universite de Nimes and Universite de Montpellier III) is a methodological contribution to design research. It examines the approach known as Research Through Design (RTD), arguing that RTD needs to reconsider what "designing" itself means within a research process that works through design activity, and situates this within a broader transdisciplinary framing of design research methodology.
