Gjoko Muratovski's SAGE-published guide to conducting design research as a disciplined, evidence-based practice, including interviews with ten design researchers from around the world. First published in 2016 and revised since, it argues that designers working on services and systems, not just objects, need method behind their claims.
Muratovski's standard guide to doing research as a designer — turning evidence and inquiry into strategy rather than decoration. It sits at the meeting of two SDF components: Observations (grounding design in what's actually there) and Procedures (the disciplined methods that make research usable). Published by SAGE, the book makes the case that as designers increasingly work on services, processes and organisations rather than objects alone, craft skill is not enough: claims need evidence, and evidence needs method. It includes interviews with ten design researchers from around the world, and argues for a broader notion of what design research can be in the twenty-first century. First published in 2016, it went through a second edition in 2022 and a further edition since.
