Professional perspectives on collaborative design work

Feast's study builds on earlier research into the social processes involved in design activity, focusing specifically on how professional designers themselves perceive and describe collaboration in their day-to-day work. The paper argues that collaboration has become more important as designers face growing pressure to compete in fast-paced global markets, and that designers need to draw on the strengths of different stakeholders to build shared knowledge and practices capable of addressing the complexity of problems facing society. To explore this, Feast conducted twenty-three semi-structured, in-context interviews with professional designers drawn from thirteen different design specializations, examining their perspectives on why and how collaboration matters to their work.
