Chile's first public policy for the design sector, covering 2017 to 2022, setting 15 objectives and 32 measures to promote collaborative, socially engaged, sustainable design practice within the state's cultural policy framework.
This is the Chilean government's Política de Fomento del Diseño 2017-2022 (Design Promotion Policy), issued by the Design Area of what was then the Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes (now the Ministerio de las Culturas, las Artes y el Patrimonio). Built on an extensive diagnostic process that included input from the private sector and civil society, it was the first public policy instrument of its kind in Chile, setting out principles for public management of the design sector. It comprises 15 objectives and 32 concrete measures oriented toward promoting collaborative and interdisciplinary design work, embedding design across different stages of the product development chain, strengthening how design is commercialized and disseminated, highlighting design's social role, and encouraging sustainable practices and the use of digital technologies, all grounded in the broader National Cultural Policy's principles of freedom of creation, cultural participation and respect for cultural heritage.
