Massive_Change.pdf

Massive Change is a project by designer Bruce Mau and the Institute without Boundaries examining how design, understood broadly, can be used as a methodology to address problems built into today's social, economic and political systems. It began as a touring exhibition — first shown at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 2004–2005 before travelling to Toronto and Chicago — built around eleven themed multimedia installations covering areas such as urban planning, transportation, energy and healthcare, and including provocative displays such as a genetically modified featherless chicken and a room built from discarded electronics and household waste. Beyond the exhibition, the project also took the form of a published book, a newsletter and a radio program co-hosted by Jennifer Leonard, arguing that design's reach now extends across the systems that shape everyday life, not just individual products.
