Clotilde Lechuga's 2016 article, published in Revista Creatividad y Sociedad, examines Appropriationism as an artistic practice through the lens of Arthur C. Danto's ideas on iconic self-reflection in art, a theme artists have engaged with consciously since the twentieth century. The article revisits traditional notions of art as a copy of reality, using devices such as maps, mirrors, and portraits to analyze how art participates in social and political critique. It concludes that Appropriationism builds original artistic proposals by reusing recognized works from the world of art and culture as tools for re-signification and for constructing new common identities.
