Marcia Moura's conference paper analyzes contemporary Brazilian jewelry design, looking at how pieces selected in a major design award and two 2010 to 2011 exhibitions put jewelry in dialogue with the body and with fashion.
Presented at the 6th International Conference on Design Research (Congresso Internacional de Pesquisa em Design) in Sao Paulo, Brazil, this paper by Marcia Moura examines contemporary Brazilian jewelry as an object that engages in dialogue with the body and with fashion. The analysis draws on pieces selected through the 23rd edition of the Museu da Casa Brasileira Design Award, chosen for its long-running, continuous presence in Brazilian design since 1986, together with two exhibitions: 'Design, Inovacao e Sustentabilidade', the main show of the 2010 Brazilian Design Biennial in Curitiba, curated by Adelia Borges, and 'Joia Contemporanea Brasileira, um dia em casa', curated by Miriam Mirna Korolkovas at A Casa Museum of the Brazilian Object in Sao Paulo, which opened in April 2011.
