Fenomenología y el Poder

This is an interview with Michel Foucault conducted in Paris on 3 April 1978 by Colin Gordon and Paul Patton (with Meaghan Morris also present), arranged with the help of Pasquale Pasquino as background for Gordon's edited volume "Power/Knowledge." The interview remained unpublished for over three decades until it was located in the Foucault Archives at the Bancroft Library and published, with an introduction by Colin Gordon, in the journal Foucault Studies in 2012. In it, Foucault discusses his own intellectual path from phenomenology to a critique of Marxism: the "subjectivistic" reception of phenomenology in France, his relationship with structuralism, refinements to his account of the mechanisms of power, his opposition to the "politicization of human relationships," his notion of resistance, and points of contact between Kant and Nietzsche. The interview captures a pivotal moment in Foucault's thinking, shortly before his coverage of the Iranian revolution and his turn toward the "genealogy of ourselves." Credits: Gordon, C. (1978).
