The 24th European Week of Regions and Cities runs 12 to 14 October 2026 in Brussels under the theme Strong regions, strong Europe, with around 124 sessions on cohesion policy, territorial resilience, the green and digital transitions, and multilevel governance. Seen through the Symbiotic Design Framework, cohesion policy is an exercise in Social Responsibility at territorial scale, an attempt at equity of outcomes across very different regions, and the place-based challenges it addresses behave less like tame briefs than like Wicked Problems whose requirements keep shifting.
The European Week of Regions and Cities is the biggest annual Brussels event at which cities and regions show how they create growth, jobs, and wellbeing. The 2026 edition, its 24th, gathers regional and local authorities, EU institutions, and stakeholders for three days of political debates, workshops, EU Sessions, and EURegionsTalks. Sessions span cohesion policy, competitiveness, cross-border cooperation, the green transition, digital innovation, and civil society engagement, with venues including the Jacques Delors building, Square Brussels, and the European Parliament.
Registration is open to participants from across Europe. For designers and architects working on sustainability, the event is a window onto how place-based policy is negotiated across scales, the kind of multi-actor, contested terrain the framework treats as wicked rather than merely complicated.
