Creativity and evolution: a metadesign perspective

This paper looks at metadesign, an approach concerned with opening up solution spaces rather than delivering finished solutions, aimed at creating the social and technical infrastructures within which new forms of collaborative design can happen. Giaccardi and Fischer extend the traditional idea of design beyond a system's initial development to include ongoing, co-adaptive processes between users and systems, in which users themselves act as designers, adapting and evolving a system to needs that could not be fully anticipated at design time.
