It credits him with 28 patents, 28 books and 47 honorary degrees, his best-known invention being the geodesic dome (patented in 1954, with more than 300,000 built worldwide), and with coining the term "Spaceship Earth" to argue that humanity must work together as the crew of one shared vessel.
