A new programme of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre giving start-ups, scale-ups, SMEs and larger companies established in EU Member States paid access to selected JRC research infrastructures and expertise, through calls for expressions of interest. The first user projects are expected to start in January 2027.
Launched in September 2026, JRC Labs as a Service lets companies use JRC facilities to test and validate technologies, materials and products, address technical or measurement challenges, generate data and evidence, and move from development to market. It is a paid access service: users pay the full cost of their access, so that the programme complements commercial services, and they keep full ownership of the intellectual property and deliverables. Access is limited to institutions established in EU Member States; organisations from associated countries are not eligible. The JRC launches calls for expressions of interest, and proposals are assessed on the schedule of the infrastructure, the available resources and technical feasibility; proposals from projects funded at EU or national level are welcome. The strategic research areas are space, security and defence, digital, biotechnology and life sciences, the clean industrial deal and nuclear. The laboratories taking part include the European Laboratory for Structural Assessment (ELSA) with its reaction wall and large Hopkinson bar facility, the Nanobiotechnology Laboratory and several nuclear materials laboratories. The framework for access, with the documents, is on the JRC page. No closing date is given. Source: Joint Research Centre
