Planetary Guardians, a collective of world leaders, climate champions and scientists working with the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, is looking for a Chief Planetary Officer to lead its strategy, operations and governance. Full time, ideally based in London, New York or the Netherlands, with frequent travel.
Planetary Guardians elevates the Planetary Health Check, the scientific assessment of the nine planetary boundaries led by Dr. Johan Rockström and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, and works with the UN, governments, philanthropic donors and frontline communities to shift policy and economic systems. It is establishing independent charitable status in the Netherlands and has a secure two-year operational runway.
The Chief Planetary Officer reports to the Chair and Board, leads strategic planning, governance and budget, builds relationships with governments, UN bodies and funders, secures partners and funding, and leads a lean team with three direct reports. The position description asks for proven success building and scaling lean start-ups, a track record of securing funding, experience leading agile teams and working with high-profile leaders, and ideally direct experience in the planetary or environmental sector alongside scientists. The role is full time with frequent global travel; the location is ideally London, New York or the Netherlands, flexible for the right candidate, and most of the team works remotely. Target compensation is USD 300,000 to 350,000 a year.
Applications go by email to Sally M. Sterling Executive Search, which runs the search, as a single PDF or Word document with a one-page cover letter and a two-page CV; the details are in the position description. No closing date is given.
