Symbiotic Bioclimatic Architecture
Introduction to sustainable architecture connected to nature

About this course
Bioclimatic Architecture has been practised for a long time and Sustainable Architecture has been trying to earn its place for years, with little success. It loses most often where it matters: in the meeting where the project has to be defended to the client and the investor.
Symbiotic Design fills that gap. Joined to Bioclimatic Architecture, it gives the architect a working view of everything a decision touches: the people who will use the building, the climate and the site, the materials and the people who make them, the cost, and the years the building will stand. Each is weighed against the others, with ethics first.
This course teaches both sides of the work: designing from bioclimatic strategies, and defending them. Each strategy is chosen from the climate of the site and argued with Symbiotic Design. That way the architect leads the decisions of the project and can explain every one.
You leave able to design a project from bioclimatic strategies and defend it to a client and an investor.
What you will be able to do
- Choose the bioclimatic strategies a site calls for, from its climate.
- Make design decisions for a project based on those strategies.
- Differentiate between a problem a method can solve and a wicked one that keeps changing while you work on it, and learn to work on both.
- Defend each strategy to a client and an investor, in terms they accept.
- Weigh each decision against the people, the place, the materials and the cost, with ethics first.
