The journal of the Design Studies Forum, published by Taylor & Francis three times a year. It publishes research on how design engages with social, political and cultural issues, with attention to social justice, exclusion and privilege, design in regions marked by austerity, poverty or embargo, maintenance and repair, and the invisible labour of design. There is no charge to publish; making an article open access has a fee.
Design and Culture reflects the state of scholarship in the field of design and nurtures new or overlooked lines of inquiry that redefine our understanding of design. The editors invite design scholars and practitioners to think critically about social justice, exclusion, and privilege, and imagine the journal as a forum that can foster rich and provocative conversations across power-differentiated communities, geographic distance, and disciplinary divides. We strongly encourage the submission of rigorously researched papers that show how design is deeply engaged with socio-political and cultural issues, and we encourage submissions about the scope of design, broadly defined, in regions marked by conditions of austerity, poverty, or under embargo, papers of maintenance and repair, and works on the invisible labor of design in domains of social reproduction.
