About TRACKS in general

A Track is a path designed for a specific purpose. Here at the academy we have thought of the tracks with a common denominator that is reflected in the level 101, 201 and 301 courses. They cover the bases on which the framework is built. At level 401, specialization is achieved and what is learned is focused on the specific objectives of each Track.

About this TRACK

We have been where you are and we know how difficult it is to run a design studio. We know that times are changing and that it is no longer enough to just be able to design beautifully. Today the market, society, the environment and above all our conscience ask us for more. They ask us for sustainability, true sustainability. They ask us for Symbiotic Design.

When you enroll in any of our Courses, Bundles or TRACK you also get:

All of our students earn certificates of completion. They come with a verification code.

You also invited to our private group on LinkedIn.
A professional community focused on symbiotic sustainable design and environmental care.

We’ve got you covered. If something doesn’t come out as you expected, contact us. If we can’t fix it, we will honor our promises.

Gonzalo Raineri Phd is your instructor. Over 35 years of professional experience as a Designer and Architect, 25 years as a university professors. Theory and practice developed side by side.

Ethics and Eudaimonia 102

Available end of January

Every decision a designer makes is crossed by ethics. All our decisions have repercussions and we can ignore them as we have done up to now, or take responsibility for them. This course will not leave you unaffected. Design is a political act, always!

Learn More

Social Issues and Cocreation 104

Available end of January

Designers are trained to support a political and economic model. As long as we don’t change our priorities, nothing will change. In this course we will re-educate you to see design in a truly socially responsible and friendly way. Become a social a factor of change!

Learn More

Sustainability and Regenerative Practices 103

Available end of January

We all know what is happening with our environment. And as designers we should assume our share of responsibility, unfortunately we haven’t being doing so. In this course we will show you what you are responsible for and how to correct it. No more excuses!

Economics and Fundamental Human Needs 105

Available end of January

Yes we all have to pay bills. And what we are willing to do, to pay those bills is what matters. In this course we will question the economic model and present you with alternatives.

You might turn into an outsider!

Autopoietic Theory Made Easy 202

Available end of January 2024

Autopoiesis is what has enabled living system's existence for the last 3.8 billion years. We took it and applied it to Design to make it sustainable. Symbiotic Design was born. In this course you'll learn how we did it, and how you can do so as well.

Systems Theory Made Easy 203

Available end of January 2024

Designers are educated in a linear way. Even the models we have constructed are linear: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test. If we start designing in non linear ways, our design outcomes will have this quality embedded in them.

Symbiotic Theory Made Easy 204

Available end of January 2024

Designers have a sick relation with aesthetics and materials. Yes, they are key in a good outcome, but design shouldn’t stop there. Instead, if we start designing based in relations among the eight components, their variables and dimensions, then we will start creating truly sustainable outcomes.

What is Design 205

Available end of January 2024

To define what is design today, we must first define what is not design. In this process we will hurt some sensibilities and we will destroy some myths. Undoubtedly one of our most controversial courses

Human Component 302

Available end of January 2024

Humans are our reference in everything we do, we do it as humans and for humans. We will learn the impact that the designer, the clients and manufacturer and the final user should have in the final outcome.

Learn more

Transitional Component 303

Available end of January 2024

Design has been defined as a projectual discipline, pushing forward. As a discipline and in our practice we have a past, a present and a future, but we rarely take them into account when designing. We will show you why it is important and how to do so.

Learn more

Emergent Component 304

Available end of January 2024

We decide collectively in a conscious or unconscious way what our desires and needs are. And every action design does, is a consequence of human beings as a species. We argue having free will, but we are dominated by forces beyond our control.

Learn more

Observational Component 305

Available end of January 2024

From a profound observation of the environment and humans, the necessary foundations for informed decision-making can be found. Not doing so implies your decisions will be guided by assumptions or personal taste, therefore you are not designing.

Learn more

Procedures Component 306

Available end of January 2024

Design has been developing ways of doing things that differ from those of other disciplines. We might share certain abilities, certain methodologies, but the way we use them and how we have evolved them, differentiates us, making us unique.

Learn more

Partners Component 307

Available end of January 2024

The ability to create partnerships with other disciplines is probably one of Design’s greatest strengths, highlights our exceptional aptitude for collaboration and teamwork, surpassing other disciplines.

Learn more

Tools & Materials Component 308

Available end of January 2024

Materials and tools have data imbedded into them, their intrinsic characteristics makes them more suitable for certain uses and conditions of use. To get the same result, we may need to change a material or tool if external conditions vary. Something it might be obvious, not always is the case.

Outcomes Component 309

Available end of January 2024

The unknown, the future. This component refers to design results and the myriad of consequences throughout history that inevitably return to us, for better or worse.

Design as a Biological System  401

Available only via a TRACK

Autopoiesis has sustained life in our planet for 3.7 billion years. If we change our design perspective into an autopoietic systemic structure, wouldn’t that make our outcomes sustainable?

Learn more

Design is a Complex and Dynamic System 401

Available only via a TRACK

In this course you will change your paradigm, you will stop seeing design as a simplistic discipline and finally see its complexities and the relationships they produce. You will stop being whimsical and perhaps become one of the few capable of leading us into a better future.

Implementing SDF into your Design practice 401

Available only via a TRACK

The framework comes to life through it's implementation. Here we are providing you with all of the necessary tools to apply the critical thinking and problem solving skills you have learned throughout the other courses into action.
