Quinta Monroy (Alejandro Aravena/Elemental)

Tadeusz Jałocha

The participatory housing initiative in Iquique, Chile, led by Alejandro Aravena's firm Elemental, embodying the principle that relationships within the present can create stabilizing eddies within time's current: the design process prioritized building community relationships and providing families with adaptable 'half-houses' they could complete incrementally over time, acknowledging economic flux and empowering residents' agency alongside delivering the physical structures.
