Jordan River Foundation ("Bani Hamida Designs")

A powerful design example is the Jordan River Foundation's "Bani Hamida Designs" social enterprise. The Foundation collaborates with women artisans in the rural Jordanian village of Mukawir to revive and market traditional Bedouin rug weaving. The Foundation provides design input, quality control, and access to global markets, effectively "dispersing" the unique cultural products to an audience the weavers could not otherwise reach. In return for this dispersal, the artisan community receives a sustainable income and economic empowerment, which revitalizes the entire community and preserves its cultural heritage.
