Panel on the present of design in Latin America

November 30, 2020 · By Symbiotic Design Academy

Within the context of the Viaje de estudios course held every year with the third-year Design students of the Universidad Finis Terrae, a series of conversations was organized with guest members of the Cumulus Association in Latin America. In this way we sought to make up, for the moment, for the impossibility of travelling. Link to the video in the bio.

The second event took place on Friday 20 November (15:30 – 17:30 Chile +3GMT)

Presente del Diseño en Latinoamérica

Our present reality is unique and today we are witnessing events and phenomena we did not expect. The uncertainty and the changes we are confronted with force us to question, from the ground up, the current state of design in Latin America. Some of the subjects crowding in on us today are:

• Society and contemporaneity • What it is to do design today • Latin America today • Design in transitional times • Complex problems • Technological and material evolutions • Designers and their responsibility • To be is to do • Ego or detachment towards the project • Associativity and collective development

The participants in this panel were:

Carolina Poradosú Director of the Escuela Universitaria Centro de Diseño Universidad de la República URUGUAY

Rina Melconián Master in Art History, lecturer, author and columnist DUOC UC CHILE

Fabiola López Designer, creator of Encuentro Local and lecturer Universidad Finis Terrae CHILE

This event was organized and moderated by: Gonzalo Raineri Bernain Doctoral Candidate in Design Universidad Finis Terrae CHILE
